Rep. Lee Jeong-mi, chairwoman of the minor opposition Justice Party, called for "the restoration of tripartite labor-employer-the government dialogue to prepare for the changes (such as the 4th Industrial Revolution) that are approaching anytime soon and to resolve the urgent pending issues this year" in her New Year's press conference held at the National Assembly on Jan. 22.

She commented on the recent President Moon's meetings with union executives of the Federation of Korean Trade Unions(FKTU) and Korean Confederation of Trade Unions(KCTU) as "a meaningful beginning to overcome the distrust long accumulated between labor and the government".

"While a new labor-employer-the government dialogue body should be formed to achieve such development that goes beyond the current Economic and Social Development Commission(ESDC), the agendas and responsibilities lying before the dialogue body are more important than the formality itself," she said. Having said that, she made a proposal to set up 'an advanced welfare state model dialogue body' to comprehensively deal with taxation, economic policies as well as social welfare, appealing to the labor to "take the lead to change the society to a welfare state".
