The trade union membership in Korea hit record highs in two consecutive years. Last year, union membership reached 1.966,000, exceeding 1.938,000 in 2015, which was even higher than the unbroken record membership of 1,932,000 in 1989.
If the Korean Teachers and Education Workers Union(KTU) with a membership of 53,000 - which was outlawed by the government due to the forbidden members of dismissed teachers in 2013 - is included, the total num...ber of unionized workers in Korea will be over 2 million, first time in history.
