About 900 citizens filed a petition with the prosecution to call for a thorough investigation into an incident occurred in June this year in relation to the physical assault on an unregistered migrant worker by a number of immigration officers in the enforcement crackdown process.

A coalition action group in the area of Gyeonggi Province held a press conference in front of the Regional Prosecutor's Office in Suwon on September 14 to call for a just and impartial investigation, while filing a petition with the prosecution and denouncing the brutal behaviour and inhumane treatment upon an unregistered migrant worker carried out by immigration officers for the reason of his immigration status.

On June 14 this year, an unregistered migrant construction worker with Chinese nationality was nabbed by the immigration officers and allegedly in the crackdown process he was kicked, punched and battered with visible bruises all over his body. He had been detained in a detention center in Hwaseong afterwards before being deported to the home country by the enforcement authority in July this year.

According to the regulations of the Ministry of Justice, any vocal and physical violence and inhumane treatment are prohibited in the crackdown process on the undocumented migrants.
