[labor news] 4th government-labor-management chief executives' meeting expected to be held in mid-September
Amid the decision recently made by the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions(KCTU) to return to the tripartite representatives meeting, it is anticipated that the 4th tripartite representatives meeting will be held in mid-September. As the Economic, Social and Labor Council(ESLC) will be officially launched in October, the 4th meeting will be the last one before the launch of the ESLC. The tripartite representatives meeting was formed as a temporary consensus-building organ to redesign a new social dialogue body.
KCTU declared its pull-out from the tripartite representatives meeting in protest of the revision of the Minimum Wage Act which extended the minimum wage components in May. After the third meeting on April 23, the meeting has not been called for 4 months up until now.
The 4th tripartite representatives meeting has to deal with piles of work to endorse the mid-term reports of the agenda committees and the establishment of the industry committees and the composition of the plenary committee.
