The Gyeonggi Provincial Government moves to introduce the worker director scheme in local government public institutions. It is the third policy decision taken by the local government, following the Seoul Metropolitan Government and the Gwangju Metropolitan Government. The worker director scheme is that workers' representatives who have the right to speak and vote on a board of directors participate in the decision-making process.

During the June 13 local elections this year, the labor circle kept on calling for the local administration with respect and due recognition to labor by setting up a unit in charge of labor and employment and to introduce the worker director scheme. The worker director scheme is one of the 100 political tasks announced by the Moon Jae-in administration. People are paying attention if the introduction of the worker director scheme by the Gyeonggi Provincial Government will have spreading impact on other local governments.

The Gyeonggi Provincial Government on August 21 made a pre-announcement of the legislation of a by-laws provision in relation to the operation of the worker director scheme in the public institutions. The Gyeonggi Provincial Government plans to introduce the worker director scheme in the local government- affiliated or invested public institutions from January next year, after the completion of public hearings and the endorsement by the Provincial Council.
