Kim Seong-min, secretary of the Yoosung Enterprise Youngdong chapter of the Korean Metal Workers' Union(KMWU), was very upset after having attended the first meeting with company managers for the wage negotiation and collective bargaining in the middle of February this year.  He has got to see four of five company managers (excluding one retired) whom the labor union pinpointed as key figures behind the company's union busting action for 7 years when the labor union struggled for the organizational survival.

In a telephone interview with the Labor Today on May 3, he criticized the company that "In a situation that the collective bargaining was just about to resume, what the company sent key union busting managers to the negotiation table all together could only be interpreted that the company showed its stance to continue the union busting action despite of the court's legal sanction against Yoosung Enterprise."

Yu Si-yeong, chairman of Yoosung Enterprise, was released from prison on Apr. 19, after serving his sentence of imprisonment.  In Dec. last year, the Supreme Court confirmed his sentence of one year and two months in prison in violation of committing unfair labor practice to undermine labor unions along with a labor law firm, Changjo Consulting.  It was the first court ruling that a business owner was prosecuted and confirmed with the sentence of imprisonment for the charge of union busting.

The confrontational labor relations of Yoosung Enterprise which was triggered by the lockout in 2011 and had continued for the past 7 years has been anticipated for a change to improve.  However, the reality has been different.  Workers of Yoosung Enterprise said that the company's suppression upon the labor unions has been getting tougher, after the company chairman was released from prison.
