Controversy is arising when argon arc welders were found to have been poisoned by arsenic, a category 1 carcinogen, at the construction section 1 of the Jinhae-Geoje Gas Main Pipeline Project which is known for the longest and deepest undersea tunnel construction in Korea. There are testimonies that pipeline welding workers were forced to work longer in the tunnel,100 meters below the seabed, without adequate ventilation systems to meet the project deadline.

Two welders on January 3 applied for the industrial accident compensation to the Korea Workers' Compensation and Welfare Service(KCOMWEL), as their arsenic level in urinalysis showed three times higher than the standard level. The project was planned to finish by November last year, but the completion was extended to March this year, due to pipeline variations detected during the test.
