The Presidential Committee on Job Creation and related ministries on December 12 jointly announced 'the measures to improve the jobs in the construction industry' focusing on the guarantee of wages, the improvement of working environment and the stable supply of skilled labor force, which were prepared through the deliberations of the construction division of the Job Creation Committee launched in September this year.
The construction industry has the largest labor force of 1.85 million workers working at the various construction sites, but 7 out of 10 workers are daily workers. The employment stability is low and the level of wage is 78 percent of the average wage of all industries.
As unpaid wages remain serious and social securities are hardly provided, construction jobs are shunned by the young workers. A government official explained that "the measures this time aim to change the so called 3-D(dirty, difficult and dangerous) construction jobs to the stable, safe and pleasant jobs."
