The leadership election of the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions(KCTU) was extended to one more day before closing the direct, mobile or ARS votes cast by union members.

The KCTU Central Election Management Committee announced on December 5 that "it happened that many union members cast votes but due to technical failures they were not able to finish their normal votings."

The votings for KCTU leadership election were planned to finish on December 6 starting from November 30. However, the votings were suspended immediately after the mobile and ARS electronic voting stations opened at 8 in the morning of the first voting day, due to the technical failures of vote classification codes. Mobile votings and ARS votings were resumed from 2:20 and 2:30 p.m. on the same day respectively.

The KCTU Central Election Management Committee has decided to extend the vote closing date until December 7 at 6 p.m., taking into account additional technical failures in the mobile voting process happened on December 2. However, the direct voting stations will be closed on December 6 at 6 p.m. as planned. Out of about 800,000 union members eligible to vote to elect KCTU president, first vice-president and general secretary, 280,000 are mobile voters and 50,000 ARS voters.

The KCTU Central Election Management Committee readjusted the mobile connection time and verification time in order to raise the voter turnout, from "within one hour" to "within three hours" and from "within thirty seconds" to "within 3 minutes" after receiving the text message respectively.

As of December 4 at 10 p.m., mobile voter turnout was 21.0 percent and ARS voter turnout was 32.7 percent. If the final voter turnout does not exceed 50 percent, the election will be declared invalid and all candidates run for the election will not be allowed to re-run for the next election. The voter turnout three years ago was 62.7 percent.
