In accordance with President Moon's direct employment plan of 'zero contingent workers in public sector', Chung Il-young, CEO of Incheon International Airport Corporation(IIAC) announced that he will switch 10,000 contingent workers hired by the subcontractors to regular workers directly employed by the IIAC within this year.

President Moon promised that he will open an era of zero contingent workers, starting from the public sector, within his term of five-year presidency and he will establish the unwavering principle to make direct employment contracts for long-term and persisting tasks and in case of safety and life-related field.

As a follow-up action, the IIAC on May 14 formed the task force team to switch contingent workers to regulars workers and to make new recruitment.

The number of contingent workers at Incheon International Airport was 5,990 in 2012 with the annual increase of hundreds of workers, and it reached 6,903 as of the first quarter of this year. The number is expected to rise up to 10,000 workers when the second terminal opens by the end of this year.

However, the trend of indirect employment practice in the past is changed to the direct employment, since the new Moon Jae-in administration launched on May 10. IIAC CEO Chung Il-young cited the reason for the change that the excessive use of indirect employment does not contribute to the accumulation of the operation capacity and it undermines the morale of the workers due to the instability of employment.
