Cesco, the largest pest control company in Korea, is under fire again for its harsh working conditions, following an allegation that it offered 200 million won(US$175,000) for the early retirement of an employee who was leading to form a trade union in the company.
According to the wage statement and testimony of a former Cesco employee obtained by the Korea Daily Labor News(labortoday), employees work 13 hours a day and the proportion of overtime pay reaches 30% of the monthly wage. When a weird 'business confidentiality protection' allowance in the wage statement is not included, the total monthly wage hovers around the statutory minimum wage, which is 1,352,230 won(US$1,187) for the monthly 40 working hours.
