Lee Jae-yong, the vice chairman of Samsung Electronics, was arrested on bribery charges. It is the first time for Samsung Group whose leader was arrested since its corporate foundation in 1938.

An independent counsel investigating the political corruption scandal involving President Park Geun-hye and her longtime friend Choi Soon-sil has finally succeeded in obtaining the arrest warrant for Lee, after the first arrest warrant application last month was dismissed by the court.

Lee is charged of offering bribes to President Park's confidante Choi Soon-sil in return for the Samsung's corporate succession process backed by President Park's administration.
