When the incumbent KT CEO Hwang Chang-kyu expressed his intention to lead KT for another term in early this month, labor and civil society organizations adamantly opposed his reappointment. These organizations have already filed the complaint with the independent counsel against ten KT executives for the accusation of misappropriating corporate funds.

KT made donations amounting to 1.8 billion won(US$1.54) to two controversial foundations, 1.1 billion won(US$942,000) to the Mir Foundation and 700 million won(US$600,000) to the K-Sports Foundation respectively, which are allegedly controlled by Choi Soon-sil, President Park Geun-hye's longtime friend.

The term for KT CEO Hwang Chang-kyu ends in March this year, but the CEO recommendation committee consisting of eight directors is currently undertaking the assessment upon him.
