The Korean Teachers and Education Workers Union(KTU) and 30 other education and civic organizations on August 29 launched the "long march for education revolution" to call on the abolition of the university entrance examinations, realization of free education and guarantee of basic labor rights for public school teachers.

The nationwide campaign tour continues until September 9 for 12 days.

The "long march for education revolution" which began in 2011 marks the 6th anniversary this year. The participating organizations evaluate that they have seen the people's aspiration for new education to supercede the competition-based unequal education system in the past election of education superintendents in 2014 and the general elections this year.

The campaign tour is divided into two groups; one group is to lead the campaigning to strengthen the public nature of education and the other group to abolish the university rankings with the objective of sharing the education agendas with the public.

The participating organizations will hold a reporting rally on September 9 before they complete the campaign tour.

The representatives of the participating organizations are scheduled to meet Seoul city education superintendent on August 29 and Gyeongnam province education superintendent on August 30.
